Humantay Lake, or Laguna Humantay, sparkles in the Andes mountain range like an emerald jewel. Its brilliant green and blue water makes it one of the most well-known lakes in Peru and is located about 75 miles to the northwest of Cusco and just south of Machu Picchu. Humantay Lake is situated between Humantay and Salkantay Mountains. In fact, it is a popular branch-off hike when trekking along the Salkantay Trail an incredibly scenic alternative to the Inca Trail. Humantay falls along the Vilcabamba mountain range.
You will be picked-up from your hotel between 4.30 am and 5.00 am, where we will drive to the village of Mollepata (2900 m.a.s.l). , which takes around 2 hours. Here we will have breakfast and then continue by bus for another hour to Soraypampa (3900 m.a.s.l) and starting point of the hike.
The hike will take about an hour (asending) to Humantay Lagoon (4200 m.a.s.l). Here you will have time to visit and explore the place and take in the incredible view of Humantay mountain (5450 m.a.s.l),which is part of the Vilcabamba chain of the Andes. Our guide will explain to us about this magnificent place and then we will make our way back to Soraypampa where we will explore part of the Salkantay trail and see the view of the sacred mountain Salkantay (6271 m.a.s.l), which is the second highest mountain in the Cusco region. This will be followed by a delicious lunch before taking our transport back to Cusco.
